In a little known Methods in Enzymology paper from 1987, Jimmy Schwartz and Mark Swanson recommended avoiding Mg anesthesia when preparing RNA because Mg activates nucleases. Some recall that at the time they used cold for anesthesia. Are any labs aware of benefits of avoiding Mg anesthesia and has anyone used cold anesthesia instead?
